Educational Programs

The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center offers a variety of educational programs and training opportunities for participants, families, and healthcare professionals:

    • The Morris K. Udall Symposium
      The annual Morris K. Udall Symposium in Glendale and in Mesa is for patients, families and health care professionals to learn about the latest developments in Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders.  check event list>>
    • Parkinson's Disease 101 – A four-week seminar course (two hours each session) for people with PD and their families. The course covers basic neurology and the symptoms of PD, medication, nutrition, exercise, mind-body connections such as sleep disorders and depression, caregiving, how to talk to your doctor and any other topics of interest to the group. check event list > >
    • Parkinson's Disease 202 - PD  202 provides in-depth information and practical suggestions for the most bothersome non-motor symptoms that impact quality of life with PD. Topics covered include fatigue and energy management, working through depression and anxiety, cognitive changes and dealing with a chronic illness and keeping your relationships healthy and balanced. PD 202 is a 4 week seminar program, 2 hours each session, for people with PD and thier families.  Check Event List
    • Powerful Tools for Caregivers – If you are caring for someone with Parkinson's disease, or are planning to provide care for someone in the future, this class is highly recommended. The class is for caregivers only and runs for four-weeks, one day a week (three hours each session). Topics include: Taking care of you, communicating feelings, needs and concerns, communicating in challenging situations, learning from our emotions, and mastering caregiving decisions.  Check Event List
    • Managing Late Stages PD - Over time and years of living with a progressive chronic disease, people begin to find the basic activities of everyday living more and more difficult. This program is designed as a hands on 4-week workshop, providing strategies and recommendations to help people who have the disease help themselves by developing a sense of independence and in turn help thier caregivers in a partnership manner. The program will also teach carepartners how to physically care for someone with advanced PD. Secondly, the program is focused on carepartners to help them care for themselves and remain in charge of thier own lives.  Check Event List
  • Inservice Training
    Inservice training for hospital and nursing home staff throughout Arizona on topics that include Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, management of the Parkinson's patient, and research and treatment updates.

  • Professional Preceptorship Training
    Professional preceptorship training for physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other health care professionals in order to provide better care for people with Parkinson's disease.
