Expressive Arts

Summer Art Museum

Creative activities have been found to have a therapeutic value for people living with Parkinson's disease (PD). Activities such as painting and drawing temporarily relieve the symptoms of those who decide to explore their artistic side. The MAPC offers creative workshops that encourage participants to take an artistic journey of discovery, where no artistic skills or experience are required. Specific benefits include improvement in fine motor skills and concentrations, stress reduction and a sense of achievement. The classes are designed taking PD into consideration and invite participants to shift their focus from any limitations to a new horizon of creative possibilities.

The Color of Your Dreams

Have you noticed that color may help you like or dislike not only a work of art but also a room, someone's clothes, a car or a pair of shoes? Do you think it is all a matter of taste? Maybe, but there is a lot about color that we don't really know. Color animates our world and even our dreams! But most of the time we take color for granted.

Join us for a fun painting class with "no artistic skills" or "artistic experience" required; you will discover all about color! In our five, 1½ hour sessions we will begin to understand the nature of color and all its possibilities. For example, with color we can add temperature, harmony and contrast. Color can also help us tell others how we feel or what we like. Hopefully by the end of our sessions you will have produced something "Very Colorful". This class is open to those living with PD and their care partners.
